Why it is important
If we speak of the XIX century, we can say that this house was part of one of the most important arteries in that time: the street of trade. If we locate ourselves presently, it is an enclosure that harbors an entire cultural expression of our town, our crafts, elaborated skillful and magically for the hands of the artisans of Campeche.
How to get there
Identified with the number 333 we can arrive down the street well-known previously as Calle del Comercio (Street of Trade), today Calle 10, and it is located among street 59 and 61 of the historical center of the city.
History
News are had that in 1779, in the area that occupies the property at the moment there was already a construction, as it shows it a plan of the square elaborated by Engineer Agustín Crame, during his visit to the village.
Its construction owes to the family Ferrer. During the XIX century it was modified almost completely to the eclectic style. The building presents architectural characteristics of the second half of the XIX century and principles of the XX one.
The building was classified and declared by the Federation like historical Monument November 24 1986 and published in the Official Newspaper of the Federation the day 10 of December of the same year, being in the following way. D.O.F. p. 11. - Calle 10 number 333 region 01 square 12.
This building served like house room until the beginnings of the XX century, later on remained in total abandonment until in the year of 1993, the State government begins the works of restoration of the property; in this intervention the roofs were restored, floors, smoothed and it was equipped with the necessary hydraulic, sanitary and electric facilities for its qualification.
However, it is up to 1997 when the total rescue of the property was done by the State government who conditioned it and enabled totally to give it the use that at the moment has: Casa de las Artesanías "Tukulná". (The house of the handicrafts "Tukulná")
This old residence allows us to admire, besides its beautiful interior spaces, a great variety products from the magic hands of the artisans of Campeche, among those that can be mentioned embroideries, hammocks, articles carved in bull horn, reproductions in wood, galleons, hats and other objects elaborated in jipi or huano palm; as well as diverse publications that narrate the history and cultural chore of this town. All these, set with a representation of the traditional caves and shacks that identify the region of the chenes in the north of the state, and in those which everything this art is captured.
Description
The architectural style presents a group of three bays to the front, followed by a central patio in which we can appreciate vain with a form of arches of half point, columns both Tuscany stile and vertical twin, as well as vain columns with lintel in a semicircular way and a cistern with curb to the center; to the sides of the central patio there is a group of bays aligned in the same axis as well as its vain of intercommunication, behind to the central patio a bay followed by a backyard integrated in its lateral sides with another bay.
The facade was totally transformed during the restoration work. It is integrated by three vertical vain (windows), which were set down to the floor level, and a vain of access, all these with semicircular lintel; the access in turn is matched up with quarry pilasters and stressed windows; between each vain grooved pilasters with base are located, which are integrated to the group of double cornice and frieze in the superior part of the facade. The cancels of the windows and the doors is wooden made; and the protectors of wrought iron, are of an elaborated design.
From the original construction the access is conserved through to vestibule that gives to piazza with two arches of half point or to central patio; two lateral bays open to this patio. Limiting it to the rear, there is a piazza of the XIX century that originally was closed by doors of wooden lattice and that it constituted the dining room. The original doors of the rooms of the lateral bays were substituted by neogothic vain that show the fashion in that time.
